An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness . . . And now one woman has stumbled into the shadows.
Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she's only imagined in her worst nightmares.
At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master vampire who thought he'd seen it all. Then Kira appears, this fearless, beautiful . . . human who braved death to rescue him. Though he burns for her, keeping Kira in his world means risking her life. Yet sending her away is unthinkable.
But with danger closing in, Mencheres must choose either the woman he craves, or embracing the darkest magic to defeat an enemy bent on his eternal destruction.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
WOW... loved it!
Reading the book for the second time made me give it 5 stars rather than 3 as I did the first time( I was missing Bones and Cat at that particular time and I didn't really want to read this one...I mostly skipped through it and didn't pay much attention which was a big mistake).
I merely looked deeper into the story and the characters. This book is definitely different from the others. And the cause of that is Mencheres(or Mankaure). His character is awesome on a whole new level for the book. He is ancient, "Older than dirt" and that's under exaggeration... There is just so much history behind him, so many memories and so much power. It's overwhelming really... We know little about his struggles from the previous books and now we see a whole new side of him. One that shows emotions that you're not used to from a vampire that old.
The other great character in the book is Kira. She is strong stubborn woman who just happened to be his savior and his greater weakness.
It is interesting to follow the story of someone so old and closed up to himself as Mancheres. To see him fall in love and fight for this love. It is astonishing to see Kira, a two weeks old vampire, to have such control over a thousands of years old Pharaoh!
A favorite character of mine was also in this book so that just makes the book even more awesome!!!
I wont say anything else. The book is great and it deserves reading and attention. There is too much to be said but I don't want to spoil the good time.
It is also a good fictional history lesson! It was awesome and it deserved its stars but now it's time to go back to Cat and Bones and see what the next book has to offer!
PS: Ohh I am fighting an urge to make the picture of the cover extra large just so I can stare at it. It's so cool, especially the green eyes.. Love it!
