Waithing on Wednesday (16)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

  Origin by Jessica Khoury
Expected publication:  September 4th 2012
Razorbill

Synopsis(from Goodreads):
 Pia has grown up in a secret laboratory hidden deep in the Amazon rain forest. She was raised by a team of scientists who have created her to be the start of a new immortal race. But on the night of her seventeenth birthday, Pia discovers a hole in the electric fence that surrounds her sterile home—and sneaks outside the compound for the first time in her life.

Free in the jungle, Pia meets Eio, a boy from a nearby village. Together, they embark on a race against time to discover the truth about Pia’s origin—a truth with deadly consequences that will change their lives forever.

Origin is a beautifully told, shocking new way to look at an age-old desire: to live forever, no matter the cost. This is a supremely compelling debut novel that blends the awakening romance of Matched with the mystery and jungle conspiracy of Lost.

I've seen this one around a lot lately and I really look forward to reading it. It sounds amazing and I can't wait for it to come out. I tried requesting an early copy but no luck there. I'll have to wait a little while longer.

Wasteland by  Susan Kim and Laurence Klavan
 Expected publication: March 26th 2013
Harper Teen

Synopsis(from Goodreads):
Welcome to the Wasteland. Where all the adults are long gone, and now no one lives past the age of nineteen. Susan Kim and Laurence Klavan’s post-apocalyptic debut is the first of a trilogy in which everyone is forced to live under the looming threat of rampant disesase and brutal attacks by the Variants—hermaphroditic outcasts that live on the outskirts of Prin.

Esther thinks there’s more to life than toiling at harvesting, gleaning, and excavating, day after day under the relentless sun, just hoping to make it to the next day. But then Caleb, a mysterious stranger, arrives in town, and Esther begins to question who she can trust.

As shady pasts unravel into the present and new romances develop, Caleb and Esther realize that they must team together to fight for their lives and for the freedom of Prin

This book actually sounds familiar. I think there's another book in which the grown-ups are gone and I think the name  was Gone, but I can't remember the author. I have it on my to-read list... Anyway, it's dystopian and it sounds interesting so I'm really looking forward to it.

Leave me a comment with your WOW and I promise to visit and comment!
Until the next time,

  15. Origin is definitely on the top of my wishlist! It sounds very amazing and I love that it is a standalone. Sometimes it feels like all the paranormal and dystopian YA books I read are part of a series, so it's refreshing to see a standalone :)

  26. I think there are lots of teen books where the grown ups are gone. Not surprised that is such a popular theme in YA lit. Gone is like that and so is The Knife of Never Letting Go if I remember correctly.

    I think Origin sounds very good. I ordered a copy for my library so hopefully I'll get a chance to read it later this year. Good picks!

  37. Hi, Martina!

    Thank you so much for visiting my WOW and commenting!!

    Your picks are just AWESOME!! I've seen "Origin" on other blogs, but have never heard of "Wasteland". This is an interesting combination -- both books deal with circumstances that are far from ideal, and both give plenty of food for thought. Fascinating! Thanks for featuring both of these!! : )
