Adult Review: Beautiful Bastard (Beautiful Bastard, #1) by Christina Lauren

This book is suitable for Adult readers!!!
Goodread summary:
An ambitious intern.
A perfectionist executive.
And a whole lot of name calling.

Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He's exacting, blunt, inconsiderate—and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family's massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who'd been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative—completely infuriating—creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he's never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe's so tempting he's willing to bend the rules—or outright smash them—if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they're willing to lose in order to win each other.

Originally only available online as The Office by tby789—and garnering over two million reads on fan fiction sites—Beautiful Bastard has been extensively updated for re-release.

My enthusiasm about died down a bit because my original review was not saved, so I’m a bit pissed off but I really loved the book so I’ll try and recreate what I had already written.
I was really excited about this book even before I started reading it, because of all the positive reviews. It was and still is a very popular book and I see people who love it all the time. So I was super excited to read it and it did not disappoint. Not at the least! It was amazing and easily one of my favorite books ever.

“I didn't know," he whispered. "I didn't know I could love you so much.”

I had seen the quote but I couldn’t imagine these two characters getting there. Not from what greeted me at the door, so to say, when I started reading the book. Not when Chloe and Bennett had already had six months of fighting and pissing each other off to no end, and they were already ready to kill each other or as it was in their case, jump each other. And boy did they ever…

Chloe and Bennett are two very similar characters. They are both passionate when it comes to their work and family, and they are also very fierce and strong, oh and stubborn.

Chloe has never been a submissive character in any aspect of her life so she wasn’t about to become out when she first met her boss Bennett Ryan and she realized that he is a complete asshole.  So her reasons to fight him were just a reflection of his own behavior but Bennett had other reasons to be a bastard. He is one of those guarded people that will lay their live for someone they love but they hardly ever show any emotion. He is used to being in complete control but when he meets Chloe, there’s something he can’t control and that are the feelings she steers up in him. That it way she is so infuriating to him, he was just scared.

“The look in her eyes told me that under any other circumstances, I would either already be naked with her on top of me, or lying in a pool of my own blood on the rug.”

We got to meet these two six months after they first met so that’s six months of fighting, pissing each other off and a hell of a lot fantasies about each other. The attraction between them is so strong but they fight it that much harder because they don’t even realize it’s there. Anyway, the sexual tension between them has already built up to a breaking point so even though we just met them, it didn’t feel rushed when they finally gave it to their attraction.

“I want you to watch. And tomorrow when you're sore, I want you to remember who did it to you.”

This is a book filled with steamy attraction, sexual tension and a lot of HOT sex scenes and that was just in the beginning. It definitely had its faire share of dirty talk (someone seemed to enjoy it a lot) and a lot of cursing (didn’t bother me but there were a lot of F*ck you’s ) but it also had a good amount of sweet talk and tender moments, once Chloe and Bennett got past their pride.
What bothered me a little bit is that the story was focused so much on just the two characters. We were just barely introduced to Bennett’s family and we only know that Chloe’s mother has passed away and that her father has remarried. Other than that, Chloe had a couple of friends that were there for her when she needed it (but we weren’t) and Bennett rarely ever talks about his past and we know of one previous girlfriend but no details there either.

The book is a bit shorter for my liking but it didn’t feel rushed. It was complete but it was just their story and nothing to give us some background information. Of course that isn’t something I actually noticed while I was reading the book, more like just an observation after I had already finished it.

“I was falling in love with her, and falling too fast and hard to easily find any footing.”

The P.O.V’s were always changing and If I’m not mistaken it was one from Chloe, and then one from Bennett (but I’m not sure, maybe one of them had two or three chapters in a roll) so we got to see both characters change. In the beginning Bennett was described as a total bastard so that’s what we expected from him but his thoughts painted a different picture. He was coming off as a bastard because he was fighting his own feelings most of the time but as the story progressed we saw some drastic changes in his mind and his behavior.

“Give me all of you for one night, no holding back. Please, Chloe, I'll leave you alone after that but I haven't seen you in almost two weeks and...I just need tonight.”

So from the bastard we knew, he became this somewhat sweet person but it wasn’t the obnoxious type that whines about how sad or happy he is but the type that fights for what he wants and isn’t afraid to show his love.

“Je ne regrette rein.”

I absolutely loved the story. I can’t explain why any better that what I already said above so I’m going to leave it at that. I can’t wait to start reading the rest of the books because I seriously loved this one and I need more!

I give it:
