New Adult Review: Walking Disaster (Beautiful, #2) by Jamie McGuire

This book is suitable for (mature) Young Adult readers!!!
Goodread summary:
Finally, the highly anticipated follow-up to the New York Times bestseller Beautiful Disaster. Can you love someone too much?
Travis Maddox learned two things from his mother before she died: Love hard. Fight harder.

In Walking Disaster, the life of Travis is full of fast women, underground gambling, and violence. But just when he thinks he is invincible, Abby Abernathy brings him to his knees.

Every story has two sides. In Beautiful Disaster, Abby had her say. Now it’s time to see the story through Travis’s eyes.

Edit: March 25th (earlier version of my review here)
Okay so I calmed down and here it goes:

“I was now in a situation where I didn't have to prove myself, because the one person that fully accepted me, my best friend, was now a permanent fixture in my life.-pg 420/ARC”

I needed a little push to get into the book. I already knew what happens. Everyone that has read BD knows how things are going to unfold but this book gave us an inside to Travis' world, one that made the book more complete.

“It wasn't okay. I didn't want her to leave. I didn't care if Jesus wanted her or not. She was my mommy. He could take an old mommy. One that didn't have little boys to take care of.”

Reading books from one P.O.V always leaves us wondering about certain actions, thoughts and feeling of the other characters and I'm just so glad that this book exists... I had so many questions after BD because Travis is a force of nature and not knowing what he thinks and does when he's not around Abby was distracting at best.

But this book is so much more that what BD was. Starting it I expected to witness the very same events from BD just from a different point of view but this was so much more(I'm repeating myself, I know)! Travis' life is so much more complicated that what we could see in BD. His childhood was hard and he grew up a certain way, living a cold detached life so not to get hurt. We didn't know just how dark his life was before and at times after he met Abby.

“Watching Abby own my brothers--hand after hand was turning me on. I'd never seen a woman so sexy in my life, and this one happened to be my girlfriend.-pg 257/ARC”

She was a ray of sunshine for him, something that snapped him out of the trance he was living in and pulled him into a whole new world for him, filled with all these emotions he never allowed himself to feel before. She was what made him focus but she also had the power to destroy him.

All this and much more was revealed all trough the book. I stand behind my opinion(and Trav's by the way) that at times Abby was a b*tch. I started to disagree with a lot of things she did even though I know what she's been trough. The book just changes your perspective and gives you a lot more to think about. And I loved every second of it. It was amazing, there was joy and happiness, sadness, hatred, rage, pure love, everything. It was entertaining and fun and it was full of Travis and for a lot of people that will be enough!

“The whole feeling-out-of-my-element thing was pissing me off and then I had Pepe Le Pew over there threatening my death. Shepley with a crush was annoying. Shepley in love was almost intolerable.- pg32/ARC”

I highly recommend it to everyone that loves the New Adult genre and most definitely everyone that has already read Beautiful Disaster.

 I give it:

Twisted Summer by Lucy V. Morgan
Expected Publication:  March 31st 2013
Synopsis(from Goodreads):
A dark New Adult romance

You have to understand that we never meant for it to happen. We knew it was stupid. We knew it was wrong.

Eighteen-year-old Danni Warren has big plans for her last summer before college: a cool job, a concert she wouldn’t miss for the world, and spending time with her beautiful girlfriend, Esme. But after one hell of an argument, Danni’s mother packs her off to stay with her estranged step-uncle, Gabe, in his lodge on the English coast. So begins a weekend of the worst punishment imaginable: no phone signal.

With his sun kissed good looks and sarcastic manner, twenty-nine-year-old Gabe Asher isn’t anything like Danni expected. She wants to hate him—he’s her punishment for standing up to her mother—but between surfing lessons and beach hikes, Gabe and Danni grow close. Maybe too close.

Now Danni’s questioning everything: old family secrets, her future, her strained relationship with Esme. One sun stained afternoon, Gabe and Danni go too far. And then everything else falls apart…
I'm part of the cover reveal that was set for today and it was a good fit to choose this one as my WOW new adult pick. Really excited about the book because it sound really good.

Stung by Bethany Wiggins
Expected publication: April 2nd 2013
Walker Childrens

Synopsis(from Goodreads):
There is no cure for being stung.

Fiona doesn’t remember going to sleep. But when she opens her eyes, she discovers her entire world has been altered—her house is abandoned and broken, and the entire neighborhood is barren and dead. Even stranger is the tattoo on her right hand—a black oval with five marks on either side—that she doesn’t remember getting but somehow knows she must cover at any cost. She’s right.

Those bearing the tattoo have turned into mindless, violent beasts that roam the streets and sewers, preying upon the unbranded while a select few live protected inside a fortress-like wall, their lives devoted to rebuilding society and killing all who bear the mark.

Now Fiona has awakened branded, alone—and on the wrong side of the wall.

Music of the Heart by Katie Ashley
Expected Publication:  March 25th 2013
NAL Penguin
Synopsis(from Goodreads):
For Abby Renard, the plan was supposed to be simple—join her brothers’ band on the last leg of their summer tour and decide if she’s finally ready for the limelight by becoming its fourth member. Of course, she never imagined stumbling onto the wrong tour bus at Rock Nation would accidentally land her in the bed of Jake Slater, the notorious womanizing lead singer of Runaway Train. When he mistakes her for one of his groupie’s, Abby quickly lets him know she sure as hell isn't in his bed on purpose.

Jake Slater never imagined the angel who fell into his bed would resist his charms by promptly kneeing him in the balls. Of course, the fact she seems like a prissy choir girl makes her anything but his type. So he is more than surprised when after betting Abby she wouldn’t last a week on their tour bus, she is more than willing to prove him wrong. But as Jake’s personal life begins to implode around him, he finds an unlikely ally in Abby. He’s never met a woman he can talk to, joke with, or most importantly make music with.

As the week starts comes to a close, neither Abby nor Jake is ready to let go. Can a sweetheart Country songstress and a bad boy of Rock N Roll actually have a future together?
I love the summary of this book. I recently discovered that I love books involving musicians so I'm up for anything that has any band related content... I'm super excited for this one because I really like where my mind is going when I read the summary and I can't wait!

I couldn't find a purchase link but I believe it's going to show up on Amazon on March 25th

YA Pick:

Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis
Expected publication: September 10th 2013
Katherine Tegen Books

Synopsis(from Goodreads):
Regret was for people with nothing to defend, people who had no water.

Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn't leave at all.

Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.

But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….

With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, debut author Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl’s journey in a barren world not so different than our own.
This book was already a very popular pick last week but I couldn't just not feature it on my WOW post. I love the sound of the story and I'd absolutely love to read the book when it comes out.

YA Review: The S-word by Chelsea Pitcher

This book is suitable for Young Adult readers!!!
Goodread summary:
First it was SLUT scribbled all over Lizzie Hart’s locker.

But one week after Lizzie kills herself, SUICIDE SLUT replaces it—in Lizzie's looping scrawl.

Lizzie’s reputation is destroyed when she's caught in bed with her best friend’s boyfriend on prom night. With the whole school turned against her, and Angie not speaking to her, Lizzie takes her own life. But someone isn’t letting her go quietly. As graffiti and photocopies of Lizzie’s diary plaster the school, Angie begins a relentless investigation into who, exactly, made Lizzie feel she didn’t deserve to keep living. And while she claims she simply wants to punish Lizzie’s tormentors, Angie's own anguish over abandoning her best friend will drive her deep into the dark, twisted side of Verity High—and she might not be able to pull herself back out.

Debut author Chelsea Pitcher daringly depicts the harsh reality of modern high schools, where one bad decision can ruin a reputation, and one cruel word can ruin a life. Angie’s quest for the truth behind Lizzie’s suicide is addictive and thrilling, and her razor-sharp wit and fierce sleuthing skills makes her impossible not to root for—even when it becomes clear that both avenging Lizzie and avoiding self-destruction might not be possible.

You can find the book on Goodreads
And you can purchase it from:

,
or

or

Barnes & Noble
And you should check out the author on Goodreads and her website.

You know that things like this are happening. To your friends, to someone at your school, to your kids even, or to complete strangers but you know that someone somewhere is bullied. This is the problem Chelsea Pitcher has based her book one and I don't know what inspired her to write it but I have only good things to say about her work and her book.

Actually, no, I don't have words to describe the feeling this books has left me with. It was so easy to read it. It was so funny and heartbreaking at the same time. You laugh one minute at something the main heroine said and then you just want to cry when you read about the things that are happening.

As you know from the summary, this is the story of two best friends, Angelina ('Angie') and Elizabeth ('Lizzie'). The friendship that has grown for years and years was destroyed in one night and nothing was the same ever since. The night Lizzie was caught in bed with Angie's boyfriend, was the night she lost everything. Soon the entire school was against her and that lead to her suicide.

This is where we learn about the bulling. Well it was more about what it causes rather that the bulling itself... Both through Lizzie's thoughts and from Angie's observation and memories we are taken back to every moment that played significant role in the hell Lizzie was living in. We can see how one wrong decision and you can lose someone you've loved your whole life.

"And when the second scribbling of SLUT appeared on her locker, I said nothing too."

Angie was an amazing character. She is sarcastic and funny and she hides behind a mask of this cheerful person but ever since Prom night, she hasn't been the same. All her life, all she wanted was someone to trust and to love her and when her own best friend betrayed her like that she just lost a part of herself. She changed and she was so hurt and she just couldn't make the first step to repairing her friendship with Lizzie and now that Lizzie is dead things are even worse because there is the guilt for not even trying.

"I'll graduate high school with a major in Cynicism and a minor in Irritation"

But she was also manipulative. I didn't see it at first but as the story progressed you can just see it, how she pushes people to get what she need. Angie is a very complex character. Well built.
I loved reading the book mostly because it was from her P.O.V mostly because she is the kind of person who would try and joke when things got so dark and depressing that it was it hard to breath. But she was also hiding so much from us, I was truly shocked when the end came near.

The revelations became a little bit too much in the end and I was so surprised. Some things were easy to guess and when I was reading the book I though I had it all figured out. Then there was some thing that made me doubt my predictions but in the end I was blown away.

What I loved most about this book though was the pages from Lizzie's diary. It was both scary and fascinating. To read about the things that go on in high school is going to be hard for some people. I've been bullied myself but I just now realized how easy I've got it. But really, I hope this book makes people think about how they're acting at school, I hope they thing about the things they say and how easy it is to hurt people. Some kids are so fragile and one joke makes all the difference in the world to them.

I got off topic and I'm sorry about that, you just have to understand that this book is so emotional and it's impossible to keep my mind at bay...

I had an idea to mention a few little things I liked about the book but now I just thing you guys should read it and see for yourselves. The books is amazing and I can't even begin to explain how much I loved it. I hope you like it too.

 I give it:
