"Here, take this. We don't have much time." Mike's frantic voice was loud in my ear. Still dazed, I glanced up at him and saw he was holding an envelope out for me to take. My eyes stared at the envelope, but I couldn't make myself reach out for it.

"Emily." Mike's voice was soft but firm. "I know this is a lot to take in, but I need you to concentrate. Take the envelope." He enunciated the last few words slowly, carefully.

My hands shook as I reached out for it. "I'm not sure I can do this, Mike." I finally found my voice. "This is crazy. I—I don't know where to go." Once I had the envelope in my grasp, it felt like it weighed a hundred pounds.

"You can do this. This life you've been living, this isn't a life for you. Anywhere is better than here."
I felt the darkness closing in around me. I could feel my throat getting tighter. My breaths were short and quick. If I didn't calm myself down, I was going to have a full-fledged panic attack.
My mind was still trying to process what was happening.

The person I trusted most in the world had woken me up in the middle of the night, just thirty minutes ago, telling me to get dressed and be quiet. I didn't question Mike then. I didn't question him when he led me out of the penthouse suite, or when we he led me down the hall to the back stairwell and came out at the back of the casino. I still didn't question him when I saw his car parked at the end of the dark alley, or when we pulled away from the building without an explanation of any kind. It wasn't until we pulled onto the highway and the bright lights of the Vegas strip were behind us that I finally asked what was going on.

"You're getting out of here, Emily. You're going to get as far away from here as possible," he’d told me.

It was only then that it hit me. He was helping me escape. He was helping me get away from Jake. I was too stunned to say anything then, and I was too afraid to say anything now.

"Emily, are you listening to me? We don't have much time." Mike’s voice was louder now, more demanding. I blinked away my thoughts and looked up at him. He stood a good foot and a half taller than me, his gray hair receding almost to the point of baldness. He was old enough to be my father, and truth be told, he was the closest thing I’d ever had to one.

As I stood here now, I felt like a scared little girl—not sure what to do, looking up at him for the answers.

"The bus should take you to the main station downtown. From there, you choose where to go. You choose how to live your life." He frowned and then his face twisted into something else entirely—tortured and sad. He and I both knew this was probably the last time we’d ever see each other.

"There's a passport, social security card, and twenty thousand dollars in the envelope. It should be enough for you to get on your feet and start a new life, one far away from here." His voice cracked on the last couple words. He cleared his throat, trying to cover up his weakness.

"I don't want his money, Mike." I shoved the envelope back out to him to take. I didn't want any part of him near me.

"It's my money, Emily. Money that I've earned and saved. It's mine and I want you to have it."
"It's still a part of him." I shook my head. "And I can't take your money."

"All those years I looked away. Let him treat you like nothing. All those times I should have helped you. I'll never forgive myself for letting him hurt you for so long." He closed his eyes and paused for a moment, his lips forming into a hard, tight line. "Take it. I need you to take it."

YA Review: Black Dawn ( The Morganville Vampires, #12) by Rachel Caine

This book is suitable for Young Adult readers!!!
Goodread summary:
With its eclectic mix of vampire and human citizens, Morganville, Texas, has always been a risky place to call home. But with the invasion of the vampire’s deadliest enemy, Morganville isn’t just in danger—it’s dying…
Ever since the draug—mysterious creatures that prey on vampires—took over Morganville, the lives of student Claire Danvers and her friends have been thrown into turmoil. Most of the town’s residents have evacuated, but Claire, Shane, Eve and Michael have chosen to stay and fight.Using the city’s water system to spread, the draug have rapidly multiplied. Things in Morganville look grim, especially since vampire Amelie—the town founder—has been infected by the master draug’s bite.

Now, if Claire and her friends don’t figure out how to cure Amelie and defeat the draug, it looks like Morganville will become little more than a ghost town…

Yet another amazing book by Rachel Caine.
This story could go on forever because it doesn't take a lot of time. A lot has happened since the beginning but to me every next book is more like a chapter in a big book rather that different book.
I guess it's because of the way it was written but I always have fun reading these books and this wasn't any different.
I loved the adventures my favorite characters went on and it was interesting and intense and fun(for me to read.. not for them to experience) at the same time.. There was a twist as always and now more than ever I can't wait for the next book to get on my shelf..

“Myrnin was silent for a beat, and then he said, "Bob would be very disappointed in you.”

After the Draug came to town and almost all the vampires left Clare, Shane, Eve and Michael chose to stay and fight. They could have disappeared and started their lives somewhere safe but they made the decision to fight for the town and to help destroy the evil that is occupying it.

That did not come without a cost and as always Clare and her friends had to pay it.

“That's very rude," Myrnin said. "I haven't brought my fangs our for some time. Not in mixed company, anyway.”

The story was intense.. That's pretty much all I have to say. In the previous books there was trouble, that never ends but it's never been this serious and dangerous. But even in the midst of all that, the characters somehow managed to have a laugh here or there or to insert a sarcastic comment...

“There were things out there in the world, things that vampires feared, and now those things were here. She was only seconds out of a very light, fitful sleep, but she knew that the nightmares had followed her effortlessly right into the real world. The draug. They weren’t vampires; they were something else, something that moved through water, formed out of it, dragged vampires down to a slow and awful death.”

When vampires are running scared for their lives, than things are really bad and now after the crisis was averted things are never going to be the same. I am super excited for the next book because the end of this one was quite the cliffhanger... I really can't wait!

Loved it!

Mr. Felton stood facing the windows in a neatly pressed suit. The black tie complemented the black suit, designer from head to toe. His green eyes met my brown gaze, and I smiled, but only received the ghost of one in return.

Once the secretary left us, I searched the room, trying to take in every little detail: abstract art on the wall, a conference table in the back, and a lounge area in the middle. The afternoon light cast a yellow glow in the room. A large oak desk, which screamed business executive, had two chairs tucked in front. The room looked comfortable, welcoming, but also professional.
The red velvet curtains that overlooked the atrium were jerked closed.

"Hi, Finnley. Thank y—"

"It's Mr. Felton."

My face flushed. How could I be so inconsiderate and unprofessional?

I immediately felt stupid.

"Mr. Felton. Thank you for allowing me to interview. I've brought my resume and a list of recommendations. I'd love to join your accounting team if you'd allow me."

I outstretched my hand and he left me standing there, awkwardly. The smile faded from my face as he leaned against the wooden desk with his arms crossed.

"Take off your clothes." His voice was low and silky.

"Excuse me?" The words hit me like cool water.

I don't think so, asshole.

"The interview has begun, Ms. Downs. If you'd like to join my team, you will do what I say and if you'd prefer not, you are more than welcome to turn around and walk that tight ass through the door, and we can pretend as if this never happened."

The fierce tone behind his English accent made me cower. I froze as I calculated my next move.
What the fuck?

The way he looked at me, exploring my body as if he were undressing me, made my stomach flip. No one had ever observed me that way. With a sprinkle of courage, I searched the blank matter-of-fact expression that covered his face. This man was all business.

As his long eyelashes hit the tops of his slightly sun-kissed cheeks, I closed my eyes to regroup my thoughts, then opened them quickly. I couldn't let my nerves get the best of me. He moved his messy hair behind his ears, and then sat on the desk, waiting, wanting, daring me to make my move.

"Have you decided? Or are we going to waste the good portion of my time daydreaming?"
I swallowed.

All I ever wanted to do was live in Vegas among the lights and fast-paced city. How did I get myself into this? Take off my clothes? I wasn't some cheap whore to be bossed around. The thought of undressing in front of him disgusted me… or did it?

My heart sped as he watched with a lust and want so fierce I shivered. It was now or never, you only live once, right?

I peered behind him and stared at the Vegas strip in the distance. With perfect plump lips, and straight white teeth, Mr. Felton smiled at me. In that very moment, I decided to gamble. I didn't know why because I wasn't much for risks. If anyone was a play-it-safe type of girl, it was me.

But in that moment, I wanted to be someone different. I wanted to know the outcome of what waited on the other side. I played with lady luck to see what hand she dealt. Maybe I would get lucky.

I closed my eyes. I’d missed the dance of Tristan’s lips on my body. The three weeks without his touch felt like forever. I couldn’t even remember the last time we’d had sex, and part of me began feeling like a virgin again. His hot breath still at my belly grazed upward, meandering through the valley of my breasts as he stood to face me. My bottom pressed against the sink as I braced my entire weight there.

A button popped open on my tightening shirt. My breasts had grown the last few weeks, and most of my wardrobe seemed to be shrinking in the chest area.

“I missed you,” he said.

Another button loosened and Tristan kissed my neck. I leaned my head to the side, allowing him greater access, and whispered, “I missed you too.”

Tugging on his shirt, I yanked it out of his pants. “You have no idea how much I want you.”

“I can imagine.” Tristan nibbled on my ear and swept along my chin toward my mouth. He spread my lips with a longing that had been denied for too long. The delicious scar on his upper lip rippled against my mouth, his tongue controlling me like it wanted to learn the shape of my lips all over again. I moaned into him and his response hardened in his pants.

By this time I was done with his buttons, and I smoothed my hands along his naked chest. Somehow we’d been walking and ended up by his desk again. I didn’t remember the details. All that mattered was that my skin was connected with his. His hands were all over me, exploring, tracing, fumbling with my bra until I felt my breasts loosen.

“And I missed these as well,” he said against my mouth, while molding the twins, one in each hand.

My hands roamed his chest and stomach. I couldn’t decide where to touch next, and I wanted to feel him, all of him, all at once. Oh, how I’d missed the field of muscles on his abs! I slid my palms over his lean torso. The white scar over his heart, where Kendra had stabbed him, rippled under my fingers. For the first time Tristan didn’t flinch. He let me caress and smooth over the healed wound, all the while exploring my mouth. The kiss became more fevered and so did my response. I didn’t recognize the desire burning inside me. I had never felt this needy. I mean, I’d always wanted him, and the sex held the gold medal in awesomeness, but this greed aching in my nipples and between my legs was definitely something new.

I craved Tristan’s whole body as if it was on the menu as my last meal. His erection poked against my belly. I wanted him inside me, yearning to feel his stretch and warmth. The painful longing begging me to part my legs and let Tristan do as he pleased pounded in a sweet tantalizing rhythm.

The phone rang. He pulled away from my mouth and pressed the intercom button, saying, “I’m not in for the rest of the day.” Tristan didn’t wait for whoever called to reply, but just hung up. Another click, and the lock on his double door twisted and blinds lowered over the windows.

[The review is definitely NOT all critiques I swear. I know it sounds like it but have in mind that I’m actually really excited for book two. It came  out a big harsh but the book was highly addictive for me and even though there were things that bugged me, I still enjoyed reading it, A LOT! ]

I am torn about this book. I loved reading it but I also loved critiquing it when something didn’t feel right.

Let’s start from the beginning. The story is about a boy and a girl and their instant connection, they are very close but then the girl opens her mouth and ruins it all(the boy isn’t innocent in the scenario either). And it was quite interesting but it all happened so fast.

I don’t know if it was because I didn’t feel the connection from the very beginning or because it really took like two chapters for them to declare they were in love (figuratively speaking) but it felt rushed.

Then there was Daniel. A guy with a questionable past and an attitude wrapped in a pretty shell. He is a strong character, but he is a bit too hard on everyone around him. His behavior and his beliefs have him standing at the edge of life looking in where everyone lives a happy life but him. He is alone and it’s his choice. He is a character that I was supposed to fall in love with but he was a touch too much for me. He was too cranky all the time and his mood swing were pissing me off because he was acting like a spoiled kid (when he is anything but). He’s gorgeous and he knows it but instead of a powerful man that takes everything in stride he’s locked himself away from the world, too afraid or paranoid (with somewhat a good reason) that everyone is out to get him.

As for Hayley, well she was a bit of a pushover. She would comment on Daniel’s demanding behavior but she went along the way like a little puppy. But she grew on me as the book progressed. Her comments were a welcome distraction. Also she has a story of her own. He past isn’t perfect and she has her own share of bad decisions and she completely surrendered to Daniel(just an example). Gave him everything he wanted and that left her way too exposed (what was bothering me is that she did it way too fast, without even knowing him). In the end that left her completely shattered to the point that she gave up. I liked her attitude towards Daniel in the end because it was a tough choice to turn him down but she did it and I that was impresive.

There are a few more things that bugged me along the way but this was the major stuff and usually I would simply not enjoy the book when there are things like that (because let’s face it, I’m not sure I liked one of the main characters) but I still found myself glued to the book.
I loved the parts where they were simply communicating, where thing were running as slow as they should. I like the everyday stuff because it wasn’t rushed.

By all means I should stop here with the series but I can’t. I need to read the next. I need to know what happens. I LOVED the ending. I loved how Hayley finally stood up for herself and I love the drama. It’s the part of any book that I crave the most. So I’m going crazy not knowing what happens next.

I guess the book started getting better and better towards the end and I have high expectations for book two. I am really excited to follow if just to see Daniel gets put in his place (a bit mean on my part but he’s been pushing all my buttons for a while and I want to see him beg).

I am really surprised by myself when it comes to this book. I received a review copy and it was for an honest review… well it doesn’t get more honest than that! Can’t wait for book two.

Adult Review: Twice Tempted (Night Prince, #2) by Jeaniene Frost

This book is suitable for Adult readers!!!

Goodread summary:
Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges...

Leila's psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn't sure what the future holds. If that weren't enough, her lover, Vlad, has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she's also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever–especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won't admit that he loves her.

Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity...

Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity.

And you should check out the author on Goodreads and her website.

I was very lucky to get the chance to read this book and I started it immediately. And I finished reading it pretty fast because it was awesome!

I've loved each and every single book I've read so far and I was dying to read this one. I was not surprised by how much I liked this one.
I love the Night Huntress world in general and I'm quite frankly addicted to the story so this was my latest fix and it was really awesome.
I adore the characters and Vlad has always been one of my favorites so reading the books about him make me extremely happy.

“You should be afraid. Very afraid. Before, I told you if you wanted to end things between us, I would let you go, but, Leila"--his voice deepened--"I lied.”

Again, the narrator in the story was Leila. She has always been an outsider in the human world because she was so different and dangerous to every human. Her abilities allow her to see people's worst sin but also she can electrocute them so she's always had to stay away in order not to kill someone. And then she was dragged into the vampire world where she was an outsider once again.
Maybe that was the reason Vlad was so taken by her but that's not important. What is important is that once she admitted to herself that she is in love with Vlad, she wasn't about to let go of him.

“You can have all of me, I silently told him, but I'm taking all of you in return.”

I re-read the ending of book one so I expected to find Leila somehow clinging to Vlad but that was a mistake on my part. She is a character that fights for what she wants but she also knows when to give up. Having to best Vlad at the game of who is more stubborn, she just didn't have the chance. I was surprised to see her leave Vlad because I was sure they were bound to be together soon. I just didn't see coming what happened next.

Leila had the intention to get back to her old job with her friend Marty but she soon found out that he had replaced her in his act. That ended up saving her life because soon after she returned home, someone tried to kill her and nearly succeeded.
That was where the crazy journey began and it was a very interesting ride to the end.

“I dare because I want no misunderstanding between us. I am everything you think I am, but I love your daughter, and what I love, I protect with all of the violence in me, which, as you've guessed, is considerable.”

Both Vlad and Leila had to deal with their own issues and they had to compromise a lot (mainly Vlad did the compromising because Leila proved to be very good at getting what she wants). I was very excited while I was reading the book because I had no idea where the story would take us and I was pleasantly surprised.

It was yet another amazing book to the incredible Night Huntress world and I'm definitely buying the book for myself when I get the chance to. I loved it and I recommend it to all NH series fans.

NA Review: Thoughtless (Thoughtless #1) by S.C. Stephens

This book is suitable for Adult readers!!!

Goodread summary:
For almost two years now, Kiera's boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she's ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.

Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source—a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he's purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes...and none of them will ever be the same.

I don't know why I never wrote a review for this book but I really liked it when I read it. I'll have to refresh my memory of the story to be able to write a full review but it's definitely a 5 stars book. I loved it.
It was definitely a passionate read!

“He said I was his heart, and you don’t leave your heart behind. You can’t live without your heart.”

The summary is pretty explanatory as for what is happening in the book. The story is told from Kiera's P.O.V and through her eyes we saw Danny and how perfect he seemed but then he had to leave and I felt nothing... He was a character with a purpose in this story and he had to leave for the relationship between Kiera and Kellan to bloom.

“I don't know how to let you back in." My heart beat spiked and I closed my eyes when he whispered," I don't know how to keep you out either.”

The thing that surprised me so much is how right it felt. The connection between them is instant and it's there even when Danny was around but when he left Kiera had the time to get close to Kellan.

“God, you're sucking all the fun out of our friendship.”

I am against cheating but here is what got me confused so much... things sort of just happened. It's not like Kiera couldn't wait to jump in Kellan's bed right after Danny left. They became really close friends, when she was left to live with him for a couple of months and they just grew closer and closer while Danny became distant. He almost never called and he was a faint memory in Keira's mind because her life and her job distracted her but also because Kellan was there all the time.

What I'm trying to say is that even though I'm against cheating, Keira and Kellan's relationship felt right. Danny was not the right person for Keira and ... yeah she should have broke it off with him, and that's her mistake but her relationship with Kellan was the right choice...

“Can you lose something that was never yours to begin with?" - Keira”

I loved the book. It was interesting and passionate and fun and then heartbreaking. It was everything it should be and I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.
